You bit into something hard, felt a crack, and now part of your tooth is missing. Or a cricket ball caught you in the mouth. Or an old filling finally gave way and took half the tooth with it. Whatever happened, you are now searching for broken tooth repair in Lahore and trying to work out two things: can this tooth be saved, and what is it going to cost.
Here is the short version. Most broken teeth can be saved. The ones that cannot are usually the ones people waited too long on. And the cost ranges from PKR 5,000 for a small chip to around PKR 35,000 for a tooth that needs a full crown. Extraction and an implant, which is what you end up paying for if the tooth is lost, runs PKR 80,000 to 300,000. The maths almost always favours saving the tooth.
This guide walks through what each type of damage needs, what it costs in Lahore right now, and how to tell whether your tooth is repairable before you even walk into a clinic. We handle these cases daily at our dental restoration service in DHA Super Town.

Types of Tooth Damage and What Each One Needs
Not every break is the same, and the treatment depends entirely on how deep the damage goes. Dentists classify broken teeth into five categories, and your repair cost follows directly from which one you are in.
1. Craze Lines and Hairline Cracks
These are thin vertical lines in the enamel. They look alarming in the mirror but do not reach the dentin underneath. Most adults over 30 have some. No pain, no sensitivity, no treatment needed unless you want them polished out for cosmetic reasons.
Treatment: Usually none. Cosmetic polishing if desired, around PKR 3,000.
2. Chipped Enamel
A piece of the outer surface has come off, usually from biting something hard or a knock to the face. The tooth does not hurt but the edge feels sharp against your tongue and looks uneven when you smile.
Treatment: Composite bonding. The dentist sculpts tooth coloured resin onto the chip, shapes it to match, and hardens it with a curing light. Done in one 30 to 45 minute appointment, no numbing needed in most cases.
Cost: PKR 5,000 to 8,000 per tooth.
3. Fractured Cusp
A chunk of the chewing surface has broken off, usually on a molar that already had a large old filling. The tooth may be sensitive to pressure but the nerve is normally fine because the fracture stays above the pulp chamber.
Treatment: An onlay or a crown, depending on how much structure is left. An onlay covers the damaged cusps while preserving the healthy parts of the tooth. A crown covers everything.
Cost: Onlay PKR 10,000 to 20,000. Crown PKR 15,000 to 35,000 depending on material.
4. Tooth Broken in Half
A major fracture has taken a large portion of the tooth, often down to or near the gum line. This hurts, the nerve is usually exposed, and hot or cold food sends a sharp shock through the tooth.
Treatment: Root canal first to remove the exposed nerve, then a post placed inside the root canal to anchor a core build up, then a crown over the rebuilt structure. This is the procedure people mean when they ask about rebuilding a tooth from scratch.
Cost: Root canal PKR 8,000 to 25,000 plus post and core PKR 12,000 to 25,000 plus crown PKR 15,000 to 35,000.
5. Split Tooth or Vertical Root Fracture
The fracture runs lengthwise down through the root, splitting the tooth into separate segments. This is the one case where repair usually is not possible, because there is no stable foundation left to build on.
Treatment: Extraction followed by an implant or bridge. In some molars with multiple roots, one root can be removed and the rest of the tooth saved, but this is uncommon.
Cost: Extraction PKR 3,000 to 8,000. Replacement with an implant PKR 80,000 to 300,000.
Broken Tooth Repair Cost in Lahore 2026
Quick answer: Broken tooth repair in Lahore costs PKR 5,000 to PKR 80,000. A small chip is PKR 5,000 to 8,000. A crown for a badly broken tooth is PKR 15,000 to 35,000. A tooth broken at the gum line that needs a full rebuild runs PKR 35,000 to 60,000 including the root canal and crown.
Here is the complete breakdown of what each treatment costs across Lahore clinics, based on current market pricing in DHA, Gulberg, Johar Town and Model Town.
| Treatment | Cost (PKR) | Visits | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cosmetic polishing (craze lines) | 3,000 | 1 | Permanent |
| Composite bonding (chip) | 5,000 to 8,000 | 1 | 5 to 7 years |
| Inlay or onlay | 10,000 to 20,000 | 2 | 10 to 15 years |
| Porcelain crown | 15,000 to 25,000 | 2 | 10 to 15 years |
| Zirconia crown | 20,000 to 35,000 | 2 (or same day) | 15 to 20 years |
| Post and core rebuild | 12,000 to 25,000 | 1 to 2 | Life of crown |
| Root canal (if nerve exposed) | 8,000 to 25,000 | 1 to 2 | Permanent |
| Porcelain veneer (front tooth) | 20,000 to 45,000 | 2 | 10 to 15 years |
| Emergency consultation | 2,000 to 5,000 | 1 | n/a |
The cost most clinics do not mention upfront
If your broken tooth needs a root canal before the crown, that is a separate charge. A tooth broken in half with nerve exposure needs root canal plus post and core plus crown, which totals PKR 35,000 to 60,000, not the PKR 20,000 crown price advertised on a website. Ask for the full treatment plan cost before starting, not the per procedure price. We give the complete figure at the first consultation at Golden Crown.
Can a Tooth Broken in Half Actually Be Saved?
Quick answer: Yes, in most cases. If the root is intact and the fracture has not travelled below the bone level, the tooth can be rebuilt with post and core reconstruction followed by a crown. An X-ray at consultation gives a definite answer in five minutes.
This is the question we hear most often, usually from someone who has already been told elsewhere that the tooth has to come out. The honest answer is that it depends on one thing: how much healthy root is left below the break.
The tooth can usually be saved when
- The fracture stops at or above the gum line
- At least 2mm of healthy tooth structure remains above the bone, which gives the crown something to grip
- The root is not cracked lengthwise
- There is no advanced gum disease loosening the tooth
- The root is long enough to hold a post
The tooth usually cannot be saved when
- The fracture runs vertically down the root
- The break extends several millimetres below the bone level
- The root is severely resorbed or infected beyond repair
- The tooth is already mobile from bone loss
A tooth that looks hopeless to the patient often looks straightforward on an X-ray. Never accept extraction as the only option without seeing the radiograph yourself.
When the structure above the gum is minimal but the root is healthy, there is still a procedure called crown lengthening that exposes more tooth by reshaping the gum. It adds a step but saves teeth that would otherwise be pulled.
What to Do in the First Hour After Breaking a Tooth
What you do immediately affects what can be saved. These steps take two minutes and matter more than people realise.
- Rinse with warm salt water. Half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water. This clears debris and reduces bacteria around the exposed area.
- Save the fragment. If a piece broke off, put it in milk or hold it inside your cheek. For a front tooth chip, a dentist can sometimes bond the original fragment back on, which looks better than any composite.
- Cold compress on the outside. Ice wrapped in cloth against the cheek, 15 minutes on, 15 off. Controls swelling.
- Cover a sharp edge. Sugar free chewing gum or dental wax over the jagged edge stops it from cutting your tongue or cheek on the way to the clinic.
- Take a painkiller orally, not topically. Paracetamol or ibuprofen by mouth. Never place an aspirin against the gum, it burns the tissue.
- Avoid extremes. No very hot, cold, or sugary food or drink on that side.
- Call a dentist the same day. An exposed nerve left untreated becomes an infected nerve within days, which turns a crown into a root canal plus crown.
Golden Crown Dental Surgery sees emergency cases the same day, Monday to Saturday between 11:30 AM and 8:30 PM. Call +92-320-0975000 and describe what happened.
Repair or Extract: The Comparison Nobody Shows You
Extraction sounds cheaper. It is, on the day. The problem is what happens over the following years.
| Factor | Repair (crown or rebuild) | Extract then replace |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront cost | PKR 15,000 to 60,000 | PKR 3,000 to 8,000 |
| Replacement cost later | None | PKR 80,000 to 300,000 (implant) |
| Bone preserved | Yes, root keeps bone stimulated | No, bone shrinks within months |
| Neighbouring teeth | Stay in position | Drift into the gap over time |
| Chewing | Normal immediately | Reduced until replaced |
| Total time | 1 to 3 visits | Extraction plus 3 to 6 months healing plus implant |
| Natural root kept | Yes | No |
The gap left by an extracted molar does not stay a gap. The tooth above it drops down, the teeth on either side tilt inward, and your bite changes. Fixing that later costs more than the original repair would have.
When a Root Canal Becomes Part of the Repair
People hear root canal and assume the worst. It is simply the step that removes an exposed or infected nerve so the tooth can be rebuilt on top of it.
Signs the nerve is involved
- Throbbing pain that continues after the trigger is gone
- Sensitivity to hot that lingers more than 30 seconds
- Pain when you lie down at night
- The tooth has darkened compared to its neighbours
- A pimple like swelling on the gum near the tooth
- You can see pink or red tissue inside the break
Signs the nerve is probably fine
- No pain at all, just a sharp edge
- Brief sensitivity to cold that stops within seconds
- The break is clearly only in the enamel layer
Modern rotary endodontics has made the procedure routine. Most patients describe it as no worse than a filling. Our full breakdown of the process and pricing is on the root canal treatment page.
How Long Does Each Repair Last
Longevity varies by material and by how well you look after it. These are realistic figures, not sales figures.
- Composite bonding: 5 to 7 years. Stains gradually with chai and smoking, chips if you bite ice or open packets with your teeth.
- Porcelain crown: 10 to 15 years. Strong and natural looking but more brittle than zirconia under heavy bite force.
- Zirconia crown: 15 to 20 years or longer. The strongest option available and our usual recommendation for molars.
- Inlay or onlay: 10 to 15 years. Preserves more natural tooth than a crown.
- Porcelain veneer: 10 to 15 years on front teeth with normal use.
- Post and core: Lasts as long as the crown above it, assuming the root stays healthy.
Three habits shorten every one of these: grinding at night without a guard, chewing ice or hard sweets, and skipping six monthly scaling appointments so gum disease loosens the foundation.
What Happens If You Wait
A broken tooth does not heal. It gets worse on a predictable timeline, and the cost goes up at each stage.
- Week 1: Bacteria enter the exposed dentin. Sensitivity increases. Repair still simple, a crown or bonding.
- Week 2 to 4: Bacteria reach the pulp. Pain becomes constant. Now you need a root canal before the crown, roughly PKR 15,000 extra.
- Month 2 to 3: Infection spreads into the root tip. An abscess forms. Add antibiotics, possible emergency drainage, and a more complex root canal.
- Month 4 and beyond: Bone around the root starts dissolving. The fracture widens as you keep chewing on it. At some point the tooth crosses from repairable to extraction only.
The patients who end up needing implants are rarely the ones with the worst initial break. They are the ones who waited six months with a tooth that could have been crowned in week one.
Choosing Where to Get It Repaired
Prices for the same crown vary by more than double across Lahore. Some of that is real difference in materials and skill, some is just location overhead. Ask these before you commit.
- Can I see the X-ray? Any dentist recommending extraction should show you why on the radiograph.
- What is the total cost of the full plan? Not the crown price alone. Include root canal, post, build up, and the crown.
- Which crown material and brand? Zirconia from a reputable lab behaves very differently from an unbranded alternative.
- Is there a warranty? Serious clinics stand behind major restorations. Ours carry a 5 year warranty.
- How many of these do you do? Post and core rebuilds are technique sensitive. You want someone who does them weekly, not yearly.
- What happens if it fails? Get the answer before, not after.
Getting Your Broken Tooth Repaired at Golden Crown
We handle broken tooth repair in Lahore every working day at our clinic on DHA Main Blvd, Super Town. Dr. Nabeel Aslam (BDS) assesses the damage with a digital X-ray, tells you honestly whether the tooth can be saved, and gives you the complete cost of the treatment plan before anything begins.
Our approach is simple: we exhaust every option to save the natural tooth before we discuss extraction. Most clinics in Lahore do not offer post and core reconstruction at all, which is why patients get told a repairable tooth needs to come out. We rebuild teeth that other clinics have already written off.
